Circa 2002

 Tracy Smith got pulled over with her brother's kids in the car, I believe in Texas. She was guilty of a hit and run but because of her family's long history of civil service the investigation went no farther. She claimed she thought she hit a sign, but that was never the case.  The child may in fact been Tracy's biological offsring being raised by her brother since birth, but I'm not sure. In fact, the way she told it, she had pinned the guy to his garage and possibly had rolled over him more than once. The guy didn't press charges because he knew he had been in the wrong over something... what was it?

Her brother didn't even know that Tre, as her friends called her, was in town, or that she had his child in her custody. I think she picked up the kid as an afterthought, almost as if she thought she could alibi herself by having the young child with her. I think she was headed to Mexico. She even had an alibi because she was supposed to be camping that day and had returned early.

The victim was related to Tre or her ex boyfriend, or possibly to her neighbor Stacey.
