His was canary yellow. I never so much got to sit in it. He gave it to Kathy and we never saw it again. Before the gifting of it, he painted it green. Like a metallic green, because he liked the metallic blue Huffy I'd ridden so proudly.
He'd wanted Kathy to give it to her nephew. Her sister's son, not to Griffin, because Fred knew more than he let on.
I saw him waiting for her to say she'd decided I was worth it. I was the only one, withing thousands of miles graduating driver's Ed without a car and there was a reason Mil and Fred were outstanding parents to Jessica and Stephanie, they'd had practice with the boy who lived in four different households belonging to my family, not including theirs. I wonder, what was the straw that broke the camel's proverbial back??! Why had Kathy and Jim chose to hide the fact that they took him in last from only me?  Secrets beget lies of omission begets bigger, bolder lies.
